Spring, spring, spring (dresses, dresses, dresses)!

It has started to warm up in the Netherlands so I have ditched the tights since a couple of days and cycle through Amsterdam bare-legged.  I do use self-tanner to prevent people from getting blinded by my legs but I really don’t care if my skin is still in its winter shade.

Just in time for spring, a few gorgeous dresses came my way. And I’d like to share them with you……

Hearts and found

I can’t get over the quality of the dresses made by Heartsandfound. These dresses are made with such care, I love it. Big bonus for the wide selection of dresses to choose from and the fun fabrics they have. I get greedy every time I visit their shop on Etsy (here), it’s like a candy store for me!

Recently they made two dresses for me. One dress was even designed especially for me, since I wanted a fitted bodice with a boat neck:

How fun is this print?? The shape of the dress is everything I want in a dress. Shop the fabric here. The dress is a hybrid between this dress and this co-ord.

The second dress is their Penelope dress. The fabric is so fun and feminine. When I wear it, I feel like a southern belle, ready for a picnic with her beau!

The bodice had been made with double fabric, so no see through. The skirt is fully lined. The straps are of course adjustable. And it has pockets! Shop the fabric here and the dress here.

Palava

I have been a fan of the prints of Palava for a while. Each of their beautiful prints is hand drawn by their creator, Bryony. The SS18 collection was inspired by all things under the sea. When I saw this lobster dress, I was sold. The dress is called the Beatrice dress and comes in other beautiful prints too.

Palava Beatrice Lobster dress

The dress is made of the softest cotton and fully lined. You can shop the dress here.

Zoe Vine

Zoe Vine make beautiful dresses inspired by vintage couture. The dress I picked has the most amazing print. It’s called the Maisy bandeau dress and comes in a butterfly print as well.

This Japanese garden print is so beautiful! The dress has sold out quickly but is still available in a few sizes and in a wide range of sizes in the butterfly print. Shop here.

Havren Clothing

Last year I received this gorgeous dress from Havren Clothing. I fell in love with the print and the shape.

This dress has been re-stocked! Shop here.

Then a couple of weeks ago Havren asked if I wanted to pick another dress. So I decided to ask for the same dress, in a different colour. This baby pink, or blush, is a beautiful shade for when I have a bit of a suntan.

This dress has the most beautiful details on the back, see here!

Now hopefully spring will be warm and sunny, can’t wait to wear these gorgeous dresses!

Accessories can be fun too – the sequel

One of my first articles on here was about accessories. I felt it needed a follow up because the new shoes and bags have not stopped coming in since then. Here are some of my favourites for work, going out and everything in between.

Work bags

I don’t know about you, but I tend to bring half of my possessions to work, you know, just in case you need a brush/needle and thread/full makeup/banana/four different notebooks/receipts from the past five years….. A girl can never be too prepared!

A bag that was recently gifted to me is this beautiful pink and black bag made from the softest leather. It can hold all my treasures and comes with a belt (which I hardly ever use, I like to hold my bags).

The designer is Maria Cardelli (please visit her website: mariacardelli.com)

This next bag from Shoebakery is a sweet dream come true! It doubles as a work- and funbag.

This bag is sold out but is still available in different colours (here). The shoes are simple pumps which I embellished with pompom shoeclips.

Wicker bags

I have a gigantic collection of wicker/straw bags and baskets but this one had to be mine. I ditched the scarf that came with it to add my own scarves, depending on what I’m wearing.

img_2448

I bought this one at Zara and it sold out since then, but you can buy the same one at Amazon (here)

A couple of days after the above featured basket arrived, I saw this round basket on Asos. I thought is was such a fun little basket and ordered it. It came with a tassel attached, which I cut off.

The basket sold out really fast, but here and here are some alternatives.

Bags for fun

My latest addition! Although this bag can be used for work (it’s big enough), I also use it for going out to dinner. I am so in love with the colours!

This bag is part of the 10-year anniversary collection of Topvintage.nl (here).

Furla is a favourite brand of mine. Their bags are not too pricey but the quality is excellent and their designs are fun and flirty.

This print is so beautiful! Shop this bag here or here.

Shoes

The shoes in the picture above are from Aldo (shop here). They come in different colours but this orange/red was my favourite.

Rainbow shoes! What more can I say….. (shop here). The bag is from Furla (similar here).

Have a wonderful new week!

Trousers??

If you follow me on Instagram, you might know I don’t wear pants (or trousers) that often. I feel more comfortable in a skirt or dress. And more feminine. But sometimes you just have to wear trousers to avoid embarrassing or uncomfortable situations. Think stormy weather or temperatures below freezing point. Although I am known for wearing skirts when everyone else is covered in multiple layers of thermal underwear underneath their clothes.

I own a few trousers and I have posted some outfits on Instagram in the past years. Here’s an overview.  This is going to be my shortest post until now!

The latest edition to my trouser family: these Joanie Clothing cropped polkadot trousers (shop here). I have bought them with spring in mind. File 23-01-2018, 14 32 39

Another pair of dotted trousers. These are at least 10 years old but since I hardly ever wear them they are still in mint condition.

file-23-01-2018-14-28-11.jpeg

These tartan pants are my favourites at the moment (I have featured them before on this website). They sold out so quickly at H&M and I totally understand why!

File 23-01-2018, 14 56 30

Winter 2016. High waisted black skinny jeans. With stretch. Always a good idea!

Jeans! I own just 3 pairs of jeans. These skinny jeans, a boyfriend fit and a pair with flaired legs. That’s it. No need for more 🙂

Finally one of the first pictures I ever posted on Instagram. Yes, I own combat trousers. Bet you didn’t expect that!

Now back to skirts and dresses! Thanks for reading,

Dots and stripes

My two favourite prints deserve a separate post.

For me, skirts and dresses with stripes or polka dots are hard to resist. I also happen to be the proud owner of a ridiculous large collection of striped tops and sweaters. You would think that if you’ve seen one striped dress, skirt or top you’ve seen them all. But no: you have stripes in every form, shape and colour. Same goes for dots.

I have dug deep into my photo archive to prove my point, so here it goes:

Vertical vs. horizontal vs. diagonal in black and white

Vertical stripes on one of my favourite dresses of the moment from Shopbluebelle.com (here), horizontal stripes on a Mint & Berry dress (still available hereand diagonal on my beautiful Ted Baker cocktail dress (on sale here)

I couldn’t pick a favourite stripe if I had to. Vertical is slimming, horizontal is cute and very French, diagonal is so unexpected.

Coloured stripes

I could insert dozens of pictures here, but I tried to restrain myself. Let’s just say I like coloured stripes. A lot…..

This dress has vertical and horizontal stripes in orange, black and silver. What more can you ask for? Dress is from Traffic People (shop here).

Red stripes! Or are they white?? Dress is from Dolly and Dotty (this colour is sold out but in burgundy/black shop here).0699764F-3B1A-4EF7-BD71-D1AD76450519

This gorgeous blue and yellow striped top is from Emily Lovelock (sold out).

file-14-12-2017-10-36-25.jpegBaby pink and black. I bought this dress on sale at Joanie Clothing and was so happy they still had my size. I mean, baby pink and black….. (sorry, it’s sold out now).

Dots!

Polka dots are so girly but yet so stylish. And more versatile than you’d think. Of course the classic black and white (or white and black) dots are a style staple but why not try a different colour?

Blue dots from Emily Lovelock (shop here)

Multi-coloured dots (old but similar here)

Yellow on white by Emily Lovelock (can you tell I love this brand?). It’s still available at Wolf and Badger (here) and also as a skirt (here)

Dots combined with stripes

The best of both worlds….

First two are sold out, but similar dots skirt here. The green co-ord from Asos.com is one of my favourite purchases of last spring. And it has diagonal stripes, vertical stripes and dots! It’s still available and on major sale (here and here).

Even in my home, these prints are represented:

Enjoy the holidays!

Accessories

A beret a day……

I have a deep love for berets. Over the years, I have collected them in (almost) every colour. A beret can change any outfit from bland to beautiful: an all black outfit with a bright coloured beret on top? Perfection! A beret can also serve as camouflage: bad hair day? Never when wearing a beret! Another perk of berets: it’s good for your French. Everybody starts to speak French to you once you’re wearing one. I wonder why??

QUALITY

Berets don’t have to be expensive. On the ones in the colours I know I won’t be wearing often, I don’t want to spend too much. But don’t go too cheap. I have bought some at Aliexpress for next to nothing but those berets are shapeless and made of the flimsiest material.  Better check stores or websites like Accessorize and Asos.com for reasonable prized ones of better quality. The berets I wear most often ( black, red, navy and raspberry) are from my favourite luxury department store in Amsterdam: De Bijenkorf. I have had them for years and they’re still going strong!

File 22-11-2017, 22 04 06

One of my favourites: my raspberry beret. The kind you find in a second hand store 😉 Or at Etsy! Skirt is from J.Crew via Zalando (shop here (UK), here (NL) here (FR) or here (DE), bag is from Lulu Guinness (shop here).

File 22-11-2017, 22 03 42

Baby pink from Asos.com (shop here). The cake bag is from RommydeBommy (shop here).

Photo 02-01-2017, 16 01 46A classic: navy. Bag is from Furla (old, but similar styles here). Skirt is old!

Now go and get a beret and feel French for a day!

Accessories can be fun too!

Accessories are a perfect way to add some fun and/or colour to an outfit.

BAGS

I have a fast growing collection of novelty bags. Those bags don’t have to be very expensive: quality isn’t that important since you won’t be using them on a daily basis.

The bags in the pictures above from left to right are from:

Banned Apparel (sorry, sold out everywhere); Lindy Bop (shop here) and Sass & Belle via Topvintage.nl (shop here).

SHOES

Don’t get me started on shoes! I think every woman can relate to my addiction to shoes, booties and boots. I usually wear high heels, I feel like a dwarf when I’m in flats (although I’m 5.9″) but I do have a small collection of ballet flats, simply because I can’t resist buying them when they have a fun print or colour.

Shoes in the pictures above from left to right are from:

Asos (this colour is sold out; shop similar here or here); Maria Cardelli Fashion (shop here) and Just Fabulous (shop similar here and here).

Photo 11-09-2017, 16 38 09

This fun cake bag from RommydeBommy (shop here) is a little more expensive than my usual novelty bags, but it’s handmade-to-order and definitely an eye catcher! Boots are from Zara (sorry, old)

Photo 06-09-2017, 17 00 37 (1)

One of my favourite bags of the moment from Zara! The Mango boots (sorry, sold out everywhere) are so much fun (and I secure them with fashion tape because over-the-knee boots never stay put on my legs).

File 19-11-2017, 16 24 11

The scared looking little owl is from Aliexpress; the bow heels (which come in every colour) can be bought here.

Photo 29-10-2017, 16 45 01

A heart shaped bag for me is an essential. This one’s from Joanie Clothing (currently sold out, shop similar here). Dress is from Collectif Clothing (shop here). The lace-up pumps are old (shop similar here).
